The electrical permit was closed on June 21, 2023 and the overall permit closed on June 30, 2023 after a final inspection by DPP and HECO. Signs were posted facing both inside and outside the property directing pedestrians to use the crosswalk at Pupukea Road. The Pahoe Road fence was completed on August 19th, 2021.

Tenant Compliance

All trucks completed their required two moves in February. Single-use plastics, plastic straws, and non-reef-safe sunscreen continue to be prohibited for all tenants. Tour buses continue to be prohibited from the site. All tenants have been notified to remind customers to use the crosswalk at Pupukea Road when crossing Kamehameha Highway. Any signs within 30 feet of the highway have been removed.

Baseline Inspection Report and Compliance

Inspectors from DPP visited the property unannounced in February 2021 and conducted a baseline inspection of the entire property. Hanapohaku and others received the report on February 23rd, 2021. Hanapohaku has since reviewed the report including the photos and required changes described in it. All tents required to be removed were immediately taken down. An employee from the North Shore Surf Shop appears to be illegally harvesting Naupaka for commercial use from the Pūpūkea Beach Park. This has been reported to us many times over the past two-plus years but I could not report it to you until I saw it myself. I saw this personally and took these time stamped and dated photos last Saturday. This is illegal commercial use of the beach park. And it is not pono to take plants that are in the beach park for erosion control and beautification. Grow your own darn naupaka - donʻt take the publicʻs plants! Please tell your tenant to stop doing this. Please confirm to me that you have told your tenant to stop. Mahalo, Denise

Response

mahalo but/and

- and will the tenant change their and employeesʻ conduct?

- as the landlord, Hanapohaku is also responsible for this activity

you cannot just say "we passed this along" and think that ends the matter

Response

Hi Denise - The tenant disagrees with your assessment of anything not being "pono" but said that as a courtesy he will stop giving away naupaka from the park when they encourage people to use non-chemical anti fog.

Aloha, Hanapohaku

Thank you for confirming the change in conduct.

Naupaka is a great non-chemical option and I hope they continue to offer it BUT they can grow their own on or off site!

The point i was making was that they may NOT steal or take the Naupaka from the public park.

Mahalo.
